The webcam technology is new to me. I don't have a webcam and I don't have any special software to use with webcams, so I was surprised when "Alex" offered to put her webcam shot up on my computer. She did this through Yahoo! Instant Messenger, which provides all the capabilities for this to be possible. I was amazed that it could be done! I thought - what a great concept - until I verified by "Alex's" requests that she was trying to extort money from me! Now, with a webcam to allow men to "know" her better and believe she is more real than just an email, I think more men will fall victim to the scammers with webcams. DON'T SEND MONEY!!! I now question even the $20 - $30 per month for letter translations and will never buy flowers or other gifts because the photos they "take" of the women with their flowers "from you" are sometimes just old photos of the woman with other flowers already received. She quickly lets you know that she has a current visa (because she has traveled recently with her father to New York and it hasn't expired yet???). She has $200 in savings or that her father will lend her, but she needs more to buy a ticket to come see you. She gets flight information and fares right as you IM with her (red flag!!) and wants to get going right away because her visa will expire soon. She can be at your hometown international airport tomorrow or the next day if you can help her with the airfare! I saved some of the IM conversations with her and have attached them here. I have one photo I know of and maybe more. I will look. My biggest fear is that some unsuspecting male, who is not aware of the scams out there, will fall victim to this type of scam, especially because now the women can show themselves LIVE on a webcam and be more "real" than emails and photos.
