Today some news has had me over the barrel. I feel embarrassed and upset. But probably I should
tell everything in its turn.

Today I called Natalia, she had to tell me when I have to go to the embassy to get the visa. The

explained me where it's situated, as having lived there for several years I had no idea what street it
was in. the city is huge. She told me the reception hours and so on. She also told me that on
getting the visa I have to show in the embassy the travel check with the nominal at least $1000. For
American officials it will be the guarantee that I have means of subsistence during my staying in
the USA, that the authorities won't have to take care of me using the money of their taxpayers, if
I come there without money. I was a bit dumfound with that news. xxxx, I asked Natalia why she
hadn't told me about it before but she answered that my question was a bit out of place. It's a
normal practice when going abroad. Any normal person takes care of having money when he goes somewhere.
She asked me: "Were you going to leave for America without money?" Frankly speaking I even got
hurt a little. I explained that I had money but not so much. She answered that these are the
requirements of the officials of the embassy. And she can't change them. All I have to do is show that
check on Friday and then I can go even without money. If there's somebody to take care of me during
my travel. She said it's a name check and it can be bought in any bank. Then take it with me
without exchanging and it will stay safe and sound. And it can be encashed in any bank in the world. So
these are the things, my dear. I feel as I must
to apologize to you and I'm upset. I feel
embarrassed writing about all this to you but I
don't know what to do. It turns out that if I
can't show them the check, they won't let me
in the country and I won't go anywhere.

How are you? I hope you are OK. I'm fine. I
had my passport stamped. I was given the visa.
But as you remember in the site of the embassy
it's written that it isn't a 100% probability I'll
be let into the country. Everything can change
at any stage of the trip. I was standing in a
queue for 6 hours to get to the interview. I got
cold and tired. My dear, I hope everything is
behind already and soon we'll be together. But in
the embassy I was asked what sum of money I'd
take with me. I didn't dare to answer them I'd take
$80, these are all my savings that I'll have after my
trips to Kiev. I answered I'd take $400 with me. And
when I get there, you promised to take care of me.

The people who were standing in the queue for visas
told me that I could be demanded to show that
money at the customs. It'd be a nightmare if in the
airport I were made come back because of the
absence of money. I imagine you reaction to this,
xxxxxx I didn't know what to do and sent a
telegram to my parents. Father promised to try to
help with it. He said he'd try to find a part till
Tuesday. He has a little money now. They told me to
come and take that money from them. As sending it
to me would cost too much and they'd be made to pay a big tax. In addition father said it was
necessary to see each other before my departure and say goodbye properly. Then he'll see me to Kiev to
make sure I'll be all right.

I have not much time to write to you. There's little time left till we'll be able to speak in
person. Yesterday I arranged for my substitute at work. This evening I'm leaving for my parents'. My
train is soon.
